Work-a-Thon:

Everyone knows about walk-a-thons and bike-a-thons where you raise money for a worthy cause. Habitat offers you the same opportunity by asking you to consider making your next volunteer day a Habitat Work-a-thon.

Volunteers bringing in the drywallOur Work-a-thons are a great way to double your support of Habitat for Humanity Detroit. Each person on your team gets pledges from friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers to support the number of hours he or she plans to work on your team's work-a-thon project.

Habitat for Humanity Detroit Work-a-thons are easy to organize! And it's much more fun than just showing up as a group. Here's how it works:

  • Pick a day that works for your group and contact our volunteer director at 313-521-6691 ext 107 or by email.
  • Give each volunteer a pledge sheet (requires Acrobat Reader PDF-5K/1 page).
  • Pledges can be done by hour or a flat donation for the day you work at Habitat. Record the pledge on the pledge sheet.
  • Come to the work site for an exciting day of building homes and feel good about the double service you provided toward making a family's dream a reality.
  • Collect pledges in return for the day's work. Checks should be made out to Habitat for Humanity Detroit. Pledge sheets and pledges should be turned into the group leader and sent to the Habitat for Humanity Detroit office no later than two weeks after the Work-a-thon.
