Initiatives
Habitat for Humanity Detroit has a vision of creating a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Through vital initiatives like the Critical Home Repair program and Habitat Detroit CommUNITY Impact Days, we are able to provide families and neighbors in need with the safe and affordable housing they deserve by partnering with donors, homeowners, and volunteers throughout Detroit.
Veterans Services
Keeping up with costly but necessary home repairs isn’t always an option. In many cases, people with limited resources are also faced with added challenges related to age and health concerns. Our Critical Home Repair program is there to help low-income homeowners and military veterans with their most urgent repair issues, with the goal of making homes safe and energy efficient.
Advocacy
Habitat for Humanity defines advocacy as “changing policies and systems to eliminate barriers to adequate, affordable housing in order to create a world where everyone has a decent place to live.” In other words, while not “visible” like homes themselves, laws, regulations, and rules about land and building are a major part of housing. Smart policies and systems can promote access to decent housing, while uninformed policies and systems may create unnecessary barriers, making it harder than it needs to be to find land for construction, build the home itself or be able to afford a place to live.
CommUNITY Impact
Through Habitat Detroit’s neighborhood revitalization work, we tailor our efforts by partnering locally with residents, neighborhood businesses, and community development agencies to effectively address real concerns and improve the lives of the people who live in each neighborhood. One way we accomplish this goal is through the work of our CommUNITY Impact Days!
Whether your company, organization or employee group is looking to “build” a better team or participate in a memorable, structured community service day, Habitat for Humanity Detroit’s CommUNITY Impact Days are fun, impactful single-day events.
