Building Homes – Building Community – Building Hope – Building Teams
Residents of a community know their hopes and dreams for their neighborhood — safe streets with decent and affordable homes, a place to buy fresh fruits and vegetables, a park for the kids to play, a school where students thrive.
Through Habitat for Humanity’s Detroit’s neighborhood revitalization work, we tailor our efforts by partnering locally with residents and community leaders and organizations to best address real concerns and improve the lives of the people who live in the neighborhood. With residents leading revitalization efforts, Habitat’s work looks different in each community — a bank and grocery store in one, a youth center in another, walking trails, home repairs and community gardens in yet another.
Habitat for Humanity Detroit’s Adopt-A-Day is a fun single-day event. This team activity enables participants to rally around a common cause, working together in group collaboration activities, helping to revitalize Detroit, and building lasting memories as a team.
Currently, two out of every five homes surveyed in Detroit is considered sub-standard or poverty housing. With your help, we will be able to offer much-needed assistance to residents in these target neighborhoods.
- Your Adopt-A-Day sponsorship helps fund Critical Home Repairs, such as dilapidated porches and stairs, broken windows, railings, inoperable doors, inadequate roofs, furnace replacements, and various other issues associated with structural safety and energy efficiency. On average, these repairs can cost anywhere from $15,000 to $45,000 per home on materials alone.
- When you Adopt-A-Day, your team will work together to spruce up public spaces such as alleys and parks, boarding up vacant homes, painting over graffiti, building benches, and some basic gardening and landscaping. We request a minimum contribution of $100 per volunteer per day for a single sponsor event of 15+ volunteers. We can accommodate smaller groups for a minimum contribution of $1500.
