City of Detroit Sidewalk Problems
Did you know that there are over 4,200 miles of sidewalk in the City of Detroit? For the most part, property owners are responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of sidewalks. Keeping sidewalks clean and free of standing water will go a long way in increasing the life of a sidewalk. Occasionally the City of Detroit may repair issues to your sidewalk. In the case of a damaged and unusable sidewalk at your residence, you can apply to the City of Detroit’s Sidewalk Program. At this time, priority is being given to properties near schools, parks, churches, senior citizens, and the disabled community. Another case that can qualify for city-funded repairs occurs when a city-planted tree (one between the curb and sidewalk) causes damage to the sidewalk.
Applications for both the Sidewalk Program and tree damage can be found here.
