Habitat for Humanity Detroit is proud to announce Ernie Miedema as our 2026 Volunteer of the Year. Ernie is a long-time volunteer who is known for his warm, welcoming spirit that he brings to every build site. He first joined Habitat Detroit through his employer, Motor City Casino, and as a liaison for his church. Over the years he’s continued to serve because he loves learning new skills and helping families achieve their dream of homeownership.
Ernie’s dedication and commitment to Habitat Detroit has been recognized many times over the years. He was the 2016 ReStore Volunteer of the Year, and he has been recognized for his role as a stellar construction volunteer dating back to 2013. This year’s honor reflects the lasting impact he’s made on our mission and our community. Ernie says he’s grateful for the employees and volunteers who care deeply for Detroit families, and we’re just as grateful for him! Congratulations, Ernie!
