Women Build 2026
Thank you to the generous sponsors and the dedicated volunteers who made Women’s Empowerment Month a huge success!
This past October we provided opportunities for women to build Habitat homes, connect women in the trades with learning opportunities, and raised funds to continue our impact in the community.
Stay tuned for information about Women Build 2026!
The Goal
The Habitat Detroit Women Build offered a distinctive chance for women to acquire hands-on experience at a Habitat Build site, dedicate their time and skills to help others in the community, and empowered fellow women on their path to homeownership.
The Why
About 90% of Habitat Detroit homeowners are women, yet most of our volunteers and contractors are male. By encouraging more women to participate in Habitat for Humanity, we can expand our volunteer network and empower homeowners to confidently handle homeownership challenges.
The How
Habitat Detroit will organized multiple volunteer Build Days exclusively for women. These events were sponsored by companies and individuals who aim to empower women. The focus was on fostering a supportive environment where individuals, regardless of their construction expertise, can unite to make a positive difference in the community.
Habitat for Humanity Detroit Women in Trades Scholarship
Habitat for Humanity Detroit is committed to investing in women in the trades. With this in mind, we are introducing Habitat Detroit’s Women in Trades Scholarship! This opportunity will award $2,500 to an eligible student who is entering or currently enrolled in postsecondary trade programs or apprenticeships. The program aims to assist women in obtaining an education in trades, a historically male-dominated field.
