Ross Schoenherr started his roofing company in 1995, with a passion to help others.

For the last several years, he’s been doing just that, sending out a roofing crew several times a year to provide free replacement roofs for those in need.

Romeo-based Schoenherr was in Dearborn Heights Aug. 23 to do a complete tear off, and then re-roof a house for a local veteran.

The veteran declined to be included in any news coverage.

Habitat for Humanity Detroit is excited to announce it received a TITAN pickup truck from Nissan. The donation is part of Nissan’s $800K national partnership renewal with Habitat for Humanity to support local Habitat affiliates across the U.S.

Nissan is donating five vehicles to local Habitat affiliates this year to use for hauling and transport of materials to their homesites. Additionally, Nissan employees will volunteer in 12 communities near Nissan’s manufacturing and operational locations.

“Nissan is deeply committed to the areas where our customers, employees, and dealers live and work, and our partnership with Habitat for Humanity is one way that we invest in these communities,” said Travis Parman, vice president, Corporate Communications, Nissan North America, Inc. “Our employees, working alongside our partners at Habitat and the future homeowners, are able to directly improve their local communities and help families build a safe and decent place to call home.”

Nissan has contributed more than $20 million to Habitat nationally since the partnership began in 2005 when Nissan donated 50 trucks and mobilized employees to assist in home building following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in the Gulf Coast region. Nissan has continued its support through the years by donating an additional 160 vehicles to support construction activities and disaster recovery efforts. Furthermore, Nissan’s employees have contributed more than 112,400 volunteer hours working alongside future homeowners in communities across the U.S.

“Habitat Detroit is so incredibly grateful to our outstanding national partner Nissan and their generous support of our work. We have put many, many miles on our current truck which has created a great need for a safe, reliable vehicle,” said Mary Ellen Kearney, Director of Philanthropy for Habitat Detroit. “Our new TITAN will certainly help us get jobs done across Detroit and allow us to continue to serve our neighbors. Thank you again to Nissan for helping drive our work forward as we build the future of Detroit!

Habitat for Humanity Detroit and Victors Home Solutions Team Up Again to Put New Roofs Over Detroit Veterans’ Heads

For Habitat Detroit, teaming up with Victors Home Solutions was a straightforward choice. Both organizations share a commitment to providing people with safe, livable structures that residents are proud to call home. The partnership between the two organizations began last November when they replaced the roofs of two local Detroit Veterans’ homes. It continues this year with three additional roof replacement events, the first of which was Wednesday, July 5.

Each new roof donated by Victors Home Solutions is made of high-quality materials that come with the company’s leak-free guarantee. These roofs are completely new, going above and beyond standard building codes to ensure the best for our veterans. The benefits of new roofs are vast, including increased heat retention during winter, water-tight seals to prevent costly interior leaks, and enhancing curb appeal for the neighborhood.

“For every 100 roofs we replace, we donate one to a family in need. It’s a wonderful feeling that on top of receiving a premium product and experience, our customers also benefit knowing they are a part of a community paying it forward,” says Victor Smolyanov, CEO of Victors Home Solutions.

Thanks to its roofing donation commitment, Victors Home Solutions and Habitat Detroit formed an easy partnership. Habitat Detroit may be known for the homes they build for Detroiters in need each year, but they’re also committed to the repair of existing homes for low-income residents and military Veterans living in Detroit through its Critical Home Repair program.

“Our mission has always been committed to providing adequate living situations for Veterans,” says Stephanie Osterland, Habitat Detroit’s Executive Director. “Many Veterans in our neighborhoods have limited resources and health concerns that make our job vital to the community. We’re so grateful to Victors Home Solutions and their donations that allow us to reach our goal of making these homes safe and energy efficient.”

National Guard Volunteering Day

National Guard Volunteering Day 1200 800 habitatdetroit

Thank you, National Guard Association of Michigan, for your day of hard work and commitment to Detroit!

More than a dozen members of the National Guard of Michigan (NGAM) and their spouses joined us in the Morningside neighborhood on May 21 for a full day of building, demo, clean-up, and improvements!

Working with the NGAM is fantastic because they know how to get the job DONE! Their incredible discipline and desire improve people’s lives makes for volunteers who help us get a ton of items checked off of our to-do list!

This amazing group of people who have already served our country and now choose to serve our community helped us with a new home build, rehab of multiple existing homes, and put in the sweat equity to clean up the landscape and improve curb appeal on a handful of homes!

“We are so honored to have this amazing partnership that allows us to build on our efforts to complete meaningful work on the homes of Veterans,” said Mary Ellen Kearney, Director of Philanthropy for Habitat for Humanity Detroit. “Through this partnership we have improved the health, safety, and stability of homes for Veterans and their families, allowing them to safely remain in their homes and strengthening the fibers of the communities in which they live.”
